Salads & Dressings: Hints & Tips
So what is this page all about? I hope to teach you a new way of thinking about salads. And possibly teach you how to throw together in a creative way a dressing to put on those new salads you will be making. Ready? Here we go!
Salad means more than green leafy stuff!
Originally a salad was any kinds of fresh raw vegetables, or maybe they were steamed a little or blanched to make them less tough. But the green leafy things we see now are fairly recent (like in the last few hundred years) and had no place on the tables of people in early times. Fruit Cocktail, fruit salads and those Jello concoctions of the fifties and sixties are hold overs of those times.
So lets move out of the greens area of the produce and look at some of the other veggies out there.
